Greetings iRBC Students!

We are excited that you considering liveing on-campus at Richard Bland College of William & Mary. Living on-campus provides you many advantages, among them, easy accessibility to class and campus activities. We are committed to making your home away from home enjoyable, safe, and developmental. Residence Life  prides itself on creating an atmosphere that will foster community building, personal development, and that encourages eventual transfer to a 4-year institution. Living in our state-of-the-art residential facilities will be an exciting opportunity for growth. We encourage you to use your living experience to foster a sense of community and collaboration with your hall mates by becoming involved participants. For some of you this will be your first opportunity to experience a community living environment. We would like to take time to remind all students that living on-campus comes with a great deal of joy and responsibility. Each person who lives and grows with us takes responsibility for their community and their individual success.

ON CAMPUS HOUSING

Students are required to live on campus for the duration of their studies at Richard Bland College of William & Mary. Students are provided with move-in and move-out dates for each fall and spring term, along with any dorm closures for campus holidays. Permission to remain on campus may be granted on a case-by-case request for Thanksgiving and spring break. Students will not be granted permission to remain in the dorms for winter and summer breaks.

All RBC residence halls offer apartment-style living that includes:

  • Bedroom with a bed, dresser, and closet
  • Large living room with a couch, table, and chairs
  • Fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, stove, and oven
  • Bathroom(s)
  • Washer and dryer
  • On-site parking
  • Equipped for cable television, internet, and telephone options

Options available for shared or single bedrooms in apartment-style dorms (room requests will be granted based on availability).

How to Apply for On-campus Housing

On-campus housing is required for IRBC students. Submit the Online Housing Application to secure your spot once you are accepted. The required housing deposit will be included on your first invoice and may be reimbursed after graduation. If there are any issues filling out the application please contact irbc@rbc.edu.

Students will fill out the housing application as part of their orientation on campus. You will also need to pay a $150 security deposit which will be charged on your first invoice. The deposit may be refunded at RBC discretion after graduation.

*Cancellation of the Housing & Residence Life contract will result in forfeit of the deposit.

Suggested Items to Buy After You Arrive

  • Adapter plug for U.S.
  • Surge protector
  • Emergency kit (batteries, flashlight, and first aid)
  • Clothes for warm and cold weather to include winter coat, hat, scarf, gloves, and boots
  • Comforter, twin XL sheet set, pillow, and mattress cover
  • Kitchenware (pot, pan, plates, cups, utensils for cooking and eating)
  • Cleaning supplies (laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, trash bags, broom, and dustpan)
  • Toiletries
  • Toilet paper and paper towels
  • Shower Shoes
  • Towels
  • Shower curtain and liner
  • Bathrobe
  • Professional business attire and semi-formal attire for school events
  • Charging cords for cell phone and/or tablet

Roommate Success Tips

Communicate

There is probably no other person in the world you will get to know as well as your roommate. Even if you bond instantly, there may be moments when personalities clash. Remember: communication – both talking and listening – is the key to a great relationship.

Personal Belongings

It’s important to be efficient with the number of belongings you choose to bring and accumulate over your time at RBC. Anything you purchase for your living space must be removed at the end of each school year. RBC will not provide storage over the summer months. Sharing expenses with domestic students for some items is beneficial such as television, kitchen ware, and cleaning supplies with the request that the domestic students own the items after the school year ends.

Neatness

RBC requires you to keep your living spaces clean. You will have routine room checks and can be fined if you are not following the housing rules for hygiene.

Lights Out

It’s important to establish open lines of communication with your roommate on your schedule and your sleep needs. Roommates need be considerate and respectful of each other. Should your schedule or needs vary from your roommates, consider creating a plan or rules regarding late nights and early mornings (using a flashlight, walking quietly, using the study hall, etc.).

Quiet Time

All residence halls have quiet hours. Be respectful of others and abide by the residence life rules.

Irreconcilable Differences

If conflicts arise, seek guidance from your Residence Assistant first, Residence Life Coordinator second, and finally the Director of Residential Life. But remember, not liking your roommate does not grant you a room change – this is college, and you will meet people from many different backgrounds.

Campus Security and Safety Information

    • Richard Bland College Department of Campus Safety & Police operates 24 hours a day and is staffed by sworn police officers. Every officer has completed training mandated by the Department of Criminal Justice Services and is continually updated. All officers have received training in first aid, CPR and the use of AED’s. The Department has jurisdiction on all property the College owns, operates, or leases.
    • Dialing 911 from a cell phone or 911 from a college phone will connect you with either the Dinwiddie or Prince George County Emergency Communications Center which can relay the emergency to the RBC College Police.
    • In non-emergency situations, please contact the Campus Police directly at (804) 863-4085.
    • There are several emergency call boxes located at various sites across campus.
